About the Mayor of Mission Hills
Rick Boeshaar was elected to the City Council in 2003, and again in 2007. He was elected as Mayor in 2009 and reelected in 2013. He is a self-employed financial advisor who previously worked as COO and served on the board of a local trust company in Overland Park, Kansas. Prior to that, Rick led a small manufacturing company and spent 12 years in customer service, quality assurance, and strategic planning for Sprint.
Rick earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and attended the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion School before earning a master of business administration degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. He has served on the boards of his church, Country Club Christian Church, the local and regional councils of the Boy Scouts, the Friends of the Kansas City Zoo, and the Tomahawk Road Homes Association. In 2014, Rick was appointed to the board of Consolidated Fire District No. 2, which serves Mission Hills as well as 7 other cities in Northeast Johnson County. As your Mayor, Rick also serves on the board of the Mid-America Regional Council and as the Kansas Co-chair of the MARC’s Air Quality Forum.
He believes the successes during his terms as Mayor, Design Guidelines for redevelopment of our City, conservative fiscal management resulting in a AAA bond rating for our City, continued increases in average property values, as well as stormwater, street, bridge, and park improvements, and continued low crime rates are all results of teamwork with a concerned and diligent City Council, a very competent City staff, and the personal and collective efforts of our interested and involved citizens. He sees this as the formula for continued success.
