Rick Boeshaar was elected to the Council in 2003, reelected in 2007 and elected as Mayor in 2009. He is a self-employed financial advisor who previously served as the vice president of finance for a local trust company in Overland Park, Kansas. Prior to that, Rick led a small manufacturing company and spent 12 years in customer service, quality assurance, and strategic planning for Sprint.
Rick earned a bachelor of science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and attended the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion School before earning a master of business administration degree from Harvard Graduate School of Business. He has served as a board member of the Country Club Christian Church, a council commissioner for Boy Scouts of America, and president of Tomahawk Roads Homes Association.
Despite funding cuts from the state and county, he hopes to continue holding the line against taxes while maintaining the high level of city services that enhance the beauty, livability and the value of properties. He believes the issues facing the city (housing redevelopment, watershed protection, declining state and county funding) will be dealt with successfully if everyone stays involved – as elected officials, appointed members of City boards and commissions, and interested participants in forums and opinion surveys. |
