Holiday Season Tips

Let’s make it tough for criminals!
Many residential burglaries are "Crimes of Opportunity," such as an open garage door and open front door. Criminals often target purses, wallets and other items of value.
During some of the burglaries, residents have been home and unaware they had been burglarized until the next day. These types of crimes are particularly bothersome because most may have been prevented by taking the time to secure the garage door or front door.
Other burglaries have occurred while people were away for dinner, at work, or on vacation. Criminals have forced their way into homes and have removed electronics, jewelry and other items of value.
Remember, the most important thing is for you and your family to be safe and secure. By taking a few extra steps to ensure your home is locked and secure, you could prevent yourself from becoming a victim of a "Crime of Opportunity."
If you witness suspicious activity, would like to schedule a residential survey, or see things that seem out of the ordinary, or you simply have a concern you would like to discuss with an officer, please contact the main non-emergency police phone number at (913) 642-5151.
Please see some Crime Prevention Tips from the Prairie Village Police Department well as visit their website to learn more about programs, tips and other helpful services regarding Crime Prevention like: signing up for a house watch while you are away, making an appointment for a residential security audit, calling in for No Parking signs (which can be requested at any time via SeeClickFix. Please click the report and issue button under the missionhillsks.gov watercolor, then click "New Request" then "Request No Parking Signs") so officers can patrol parked cars to deter crime, etc.
